Gerontology Adult Day Service (ADS) Minority Utilization Rural Versus Metropolitan ADS Centers Adult Day Service (ADS) is an important link in the continuum of care for many elders and their families. This thesis addresses an information gap concerning who uses ADS in Indiana and is based on the results of a statewide survey of ADS providers. The goal was to assess client characteristics, examine minority utilization, compare findings with national data, and examine rural versus metropolitan ADS clientele. The study found that minorities are more likely to use ADS than Whites, rely more on third party reimbursement, and have a higher proportion requiring center provided transportation, especially in rural areas. Metropolitan and rural centers were found to face different challenges in terms of reimbursement sources, client age and ethnicity. Certain structural features of ADS emerged as major influences on utilization. Issues involving underutilization, certification, affiliation with other organizations, and funding are discussed along with implications for practice, policy, and research. 2007-04-20 English text Miami University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=miami1177040040 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=miami1177040040 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
