Perception is at the heart of every story, and the construction and disclosure of narratives allows for perceptions to be shared and re-structured. Once shared, these narratives not only assist narrators in discovering a sense of self and coping with past experiences, but also call for reflection within the very society that constructs and upholds the perceptions in which these stories were shaped.It is my hope that this study, consisting of extensive research, in-depth interactions with research participants, and a performance in which the personal narratives of these participants were presented to an audience, illuminates the complexities of personal narrative disclosure and its role in combatting commonly held assumptions and cultivating understanding.
