They allow developers complete control over their software environment and abstract away the host environment, thus offering the potential of enormous flexibility. Leveraging the benefits of containers to supply scientific software and workflows in a portable manner is a logical progression. These solutions; however, present challenges in the realm of High-Performance Computing (HPC) including stringent security barriers, differing resource managers, and high demand on those resources. The Build and Execute Environment (BEE) aimed to help address this while at the same time offering users a framework for migrating their containerized workflows to cloud environments. The efforts presented here aim to build upon the ideas initially presented for BEE in several exciting ways. The new application, BeeExperiment, attempts to provide an even stronger platform to address HPC specific concerns. Where possible the new framework takes additional steps to obfuscate complexities while still offering potential users fine level control over their workflow. In addition, BeeExperiment proposes a cohesive structure for future development and growth. All changes have required extensive re-engineering effort of the framework and care to ensure the core concepts present originally remained intact. 2018-11-30 English text Kent State University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=kent1543504875783791 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=kent1543504875783791 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
