Although important physiochemical properties of the analytes are encoded in to the time-domain, time information is commonly discarded during the data interpretation of ADI-MS due to the large random variances. In this work, a mathematical approach, termed cross correlation, was used to gauge the similarities between the ion chronograms in sillico in near real-time, where analyte ions that were highly correlated were recognized and extracted, whereas the background ions were removed from the complicated ADI mass spectra. Moreover, the correlation-based ion recognition was expanded to tandem MS analyses. The fragmentation occurred in the vacuum region of a mass spectrometer; thus the fragment ions inherited the time-domain features of the analyte during the ADI process. In this work, tandem mass spectra of each analyte within a simultaneously introduced sample mixture were isolated/extracted. Furthermore, the abundance of reagent ions during ADI is directly related to the sensitivity and the limit-of-detection. In the present work, we demonstrate the development of ion manipulation/focusing at atmospheric pressure with ultrasound, obviating the need for high voltages and/or complicated ion-optic geometries. 2017-04-25 English text Kent State University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=kent1493053646961652 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=kent1493053646961652 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
