The quasi-experimental design of this study looked at field hockey athletes (n=23) perceived fatigue as well as their dietary consumption, macronutrients and fluid, on a travel and home game at 5 specific time points; 5-hours prior, 3-hours prior, 1-hour prior, half-time and 1-hour post-game. Additionally, participants completed demographic forms, 24-hour recalls and the REST-Q-Sport 52 questionnaire. Results showed that while caloric intake, carbohydrate intake and fluid intake shared relationships in consumption on game days there was only one instance of an athletes stated level of perceived fatigue that had a significant relationship to fluid intake (r = .699 and p = .001). Differences in training and dietary intake may affect how an athlete can become accustomed to certain levels of fatigue as “normal” which can effect data collection in the future. Additional research of athlete’s dietary intake leading up to game days is required to allow for a better understanding of how their level of perceived fatigue can be affected by dietary intake on game day. 2016-05-16 English text Kent State University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=kent1460564696 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=kent1460564696 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
