Three experimental techniques are used: (a) surface tension vs. molecular area isotherms, to access thermodynamics; (b) Brewster angle microscopy (BAM), to image phase separation in the monolayer; and (c) light scattering microscopy (LSM), which is particularly sensitive to collapse of the monolayer into the third dimension. We will use the combination of techniques to probe the region of stability of these layers.
