The current study describes the development and psychometric properties of the Meaning Self-Efficacy (MSE) scale designed to examine the perceived ability to generate meaning following traumatic experiences. The MSE scale demonstrated good internal consistency (α = .89), convergent, and discriminant validity. The measure was negatively associated with posttraumatic distress (r = -.18, p < .01). Two-week temporal stability for the MSE scale was adequate (r = .58, p < .01). However, when included in a regression model controlling for social support, the MSE was not a significant predictor of posttraumatic distress in a subclinical population (β = -.09, ns). Future research should investigate the performance of the MSE measure in a more distressed clinical population. 2011-04-11 English text Kent State University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=kent1302271383 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=kent1302271383 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
