Social Psychology Sociology Affect Control Theory attribution emotions agency This study seeks to advance the agency-structure debate by utilizing Affect Control Theory’s concept of deflection to explain the circumstances under which observers will make internal versus external attributions. A sample of 212 undergraduate students at a large Midwestern university were sampled. Participants were asked to read a scenario and make observer attributions of the actor in each scenario.
