Education Teaching Reading Intervention Struggling Reader Adolescent Readers Repeated Reading A significant portion of the student population in America continues to struggle with developing adequate reading skills. Almost one quarter of all 8th and 12th graders score at the "below basic" level in reading on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP, 2005). These are alarming statistics because today students graduate to find that they are entering into a rapidly globalizing society that demands high level skills. Much of the existing research dedicated to literacy and helping struggling readers has been aimed at early childhood.
