A storm rolls in, and the two of them find themselves stranded in the middle of it. Near them on the lake are a father and daughter, two tourists on the island who have also become stranded. Sarah’s father, with the help of some other islanders, come to their rescue. As they see the stranded father and daughter, they know they do not have the space to rescue them both, and opt to save his daughters, with the intention of coming back to look for the other two. They never find them, and after the incident Sarah develops of a phobia of leaving the island. So powerful is this phobia that she never leaves the island again, and takes up jobs bartending and caretaking various bars and hotels. Twenty years later and shortly after Christmas, Sarah and some other islanders enjoy their solitude as the long drag of winter stretches out. During this time, Sarah begins receiving cryptic texts from her now grown sister, Alice. Strange things begin to happen around the island-animals panicking and strange noises coming from the island’s speakers. The islanders learn of a huge blizzard coming their way, and plan on how they are going to wait it out. Meanwhile, Alice arrives unexpectedly on the island to see Sarah. As the storm hits, and residents of the island are killed off one by one by the vengeful spirit of the daughter, Sarah learns that there was more to that afternoon as a child than she originally knew. She finds out that the father on the boat did in fact survive. She does eventually reach the other side, but after long exposure to the elements, she ends up hospitalized with a severe case of hypothermia, and she eventually died. Years later, the island once again becomes a vacation hub, and Sarah’s spirit acts as a protective guardian of sorts the locals and tourists of the island. 2021-06-02 English text Cleveland State University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=csu1620594492986169 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=csu1620594492986169 restricted--full text unavailable until 2023-06-01 This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
