Sociolinguistics Linguistics Gender Studies Gender transmasculine transmasculinity transgender creaky voice vocal fry vocal perception gender attribution transgender men lgbtq vocal perception vocal masculinization The present study generated a survey addressing potential gender attribution to creakyvoice among self-identified transmasculine participants. This survey aimed to gauge theperceived masculinity and femininity of three vocal samples, as well as the perception ofeffort in the voices. Additionally, information about participants’ experience with andideologies surrounding techniques of vocal masculinization was collected as a potentialcause of perceptual differences among participants. The survey generated insights forfuture modifications to studies focusing on transgender individuals, specifically thosewithin the transmasculine community. Considerations for future research and difficultiesfaced with the creation and conduction of the present study are discussed in detail. 2021-09-01 English text Case Western Reserve University School of Graduate Studies / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=case1624636252812604 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=case1624636252812604 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
