Our goal is to use CT information to pre-surgically determine the likelihood of success of an operation. This technique could help expectation setting or, moreover, could help oral physicians make procedural decisions which result in higher rates of implant stability and functionality.Currently, cone beam computerized tomographies (CBCT) are commonly used in the dental community for morphological assessment of the mandible and maxilla. Previous studies have shown the potential of using a single set of phantoms in the oral cavity, to derive Hounsfield Units (HU). However, due to the polychromatic x-ray source in CBCT scanners, variation in average grey level for a single phantom exists, as a function of location.This thesis will focus on using common biomaterials, used in biomedical implants, to design and fabricate a set of standards, small enough so that a single set is fixed adjacent to the region of interest (ROI).
