To date, a paucity of research has examined the reciprocal effect of thesetwo systems in the process of emotion regulation, and no research has done so in anadolescent sample. The current investigation examined relationships between adolescentevent-related potentials (ERPs) measured via electroencephalography towards affectivestimuli as well as their baseline respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA). Results showed thathigher adolescent ERPs were somewhat related to higher baseline RSA and thatadolescents with low baseline RSA showed significantly more difficulty differentiatingbetween valences of emotions. These results suggest that difficulties in adolescentemotion regulation involve both the central and parasympathetic nervous systems, whichsupports the validity of current models of emotion regulation. 2017-02-08 English text Case Western Reserve University School of Graduate Studies / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=case1470247876 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=case1470247876 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
