Parents with a child who received care at one of three Hemophilia Treatment Centers in Ohio were invited to complete a questionnaire. Results showed that the majority of participants (n=126) believed their child's bleeding disorder was mild (69.0%) in severity, and that perceived severity differed from the clinical definition of severity. Although initial analyses suggested that perceived severity impacted quality of life, it was not a significant predictor; however, it was found to impact parental burden. Moreover, perceived severity had little impact on reproductive decisions as 71.4% stated that their child's bleeding disorder did not influence reproductive plans. These results suggest that perceived severity may be important in predicting parental burden; however, a combination of factors contributes to quality of life and reproductive decisions. 2014-02-21 English text Case Western Reserve University School of Graduate Studies / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=case1383060340 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=case1383060340 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
