Physics Magnetic resonance imaging MRI multi-channel transmission parallel transmission Two objectives are addressed in this thesis. First is the design andconstruction of a customized transmission hardware solution for the purpose ofassembling a multi-channel transmission array. We demonstrate how a currentmodeclass-D amplifier and accompanying electronics form a system with highpower, efficiency, decoupling, and scalability features. Second is application ofthis hardware for outstanding problems in clinical MRI, specifically to correctionof problems B0 variations create and reduction of coupling to long conductors, such as are found in implanted medical devices. We show that an array oftransmission elements can address both of these concerns, through thoughtfulselection of the fields that each element produces by capitalizing on their intrinsicfrequency, amplitude, and phase degrees of freedom. 2009-03-30 English text Case Western Reserve University School of Graduate Studies / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=case1238442193 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=case1238442193 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
