Educational Leadership The purpose of this study was to determine if teachers' ratings of principals' interpersonal skills differ when the perceived administrative style of the teacher was considered. Data for the study were derived from responses to the instrument Survey of Administrative Functional Efficiency, developed by Dr. Leslie J. Chamberlin, Bowling Green State Univ., Ohio. The instrument contained three sections. Section I assessed teachers' perceptions of the efficiency of principals on selected administrative functions. Section II solicited teachers' perceptions of the principals' personality traits. Section III asked teachers to role play a principal in responding to simulated administrative problems. Based on responses to Section III, responding teachers were assigned to one of five Administrative Style categories. These categories were (1) Laisse-faire, (2) Democratic, (3) Autocratic, (4) Participatory, and (5) Eclectic. The responses to items from Section I having an interpersonalrelations characteristic were computed to assess the Interpersonal Efficiency Rating (IER) of the Principal. These ratings were grouped according to the Administrative Style of the teacher. An analysis of variance was computed on the mean IERs from each category to determine if a significant difference existed between the five categories. Findings of the study indicated that there were no significant differences between the Interpersonal Efficiency Ratings of principals by teachers who represented the different Administrative Style groups. The study concludes with recommendations suggesting the need for further study and research in the areas of administrative evaluation and administrative styles. 1978 English text Bowling Green State University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=bgsu1566463066604018 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=bgsu1566463066604018 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
