Educational Leadership This study was designed to investigate the relationship between selected administrator and institutional demographic characteristics and administrative efficiency as perceived by teachers. The sample for this study was a two percent random selection from all Ohio public elementary schools. The Survey of Administrative Functional Efficiency was employed as a measure of administrative efficiency. All hypotheses were tested using the chi square statistic at the .O5 level of significance. The following specific variables were tested to determine whether or not they were related to administrative efficiency: 1) principal age, 2) principal sex, 3) principal marital status, 4) number of years of experience as a principal, 5) number of years as principal of present unit, 6) level of principal education, 7) years as a classroom teacher, 8) size of school, 9) number of first year teachers, 10) number of supportive personnel, and 11) who performs the formal evaluation of teachers. The findings of this study indicated that there were no significant relationships between administrative efficiency as perceived by teachers and any of the eleven variables tested. Conclusions were drawn concerning the criteria for administrator selection, placement and promotion in light of research findings. Recommendations were made concerning future research on administrative efficiency in general and regarding future use of the Survey of Administrative Functional Efficiency specifically. 1976 English text Bowling Green State University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=bgsu1566302070903716 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=bgsu1566302070903716 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
