This study was designed to determine the importance of selected instructional objectives for teacher education as rated by four groups: (a) regular classroom teachers; (b) special classroom teachers; (c) directors and supervisors of special education; (d) college teacher training personnel. An additional aspect of the problem studied was whether these objectives should be learned in the pre-service, in-service or on-the-job phases of teacher preparation. From a list of two hundred nineteen teacher education objectives in four areas of teacher competency (Planning for Instruction, Classroom Management, Assessment and Material Selection) eighty-six objectives were selected for this study by a panel of qualified educators. Frequency and percentage tables were computed to report the responses to each objective by the four groups. Objectives were considered to be "important" if seventy percent of those responding from at least three groups "agreed" or "strongly agreed." Using this criterion, fifty-two of the eighty-six objectives were identified as "important" for inclusion in teacher preparation programs. The respondents did not agree on a particular setting as the best place to learn the fifty-two objectives. 1975 English text Bowling Green State University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=bgsu1566297702071842 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=bgsu1566297702071842 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
