The problem examined in the study is twofold. First, the study attempts to determine the expectations of teachers in respect to the principal's nomothetic and idiographic roles in one school district. The second part of the problem seeks to determine what difference, if any, exists in the expectations of teachers in respect to the principal's nomothetic and idiographic roles. The instrument or opinionnaire is composed of thirty-two items (sixteen nomothetic and sixteen idiographic), eight items for each task area (four nomothetic and four idiographic) and was presented to the reference group--teachers. Each member of the reference group was asked to respond on a six point continuum for each item giving his or her opinion for the roles of the school principal. The number one of the continuum represents the maximum expectation while the number six represents the "least" or "never" expectation. A mean score was obtained for each dimension (nomothetic and idiographic) for each task area and for each nomothetic and idiographic item. The T-statistic for the significance of the difference between two means for correlated samples was utilized for the mean scores in each task area and for each nomothetic and idiographic item for each task area. It was determined through the use of the T-statistic that the reference group identified three of the four task areas as being significant for the administrative position. It was also determined that the reference group identified all nomothetic and idiographic items as being significant except evaluating the outcome of a decision relative to curriculum and instruction and identifying a problem and evaluating the outcome of a decision relative to maintaining funds and facilities. 1975 English text Bowling Green State University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=bgsu1566297702068504 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=bgsu1566297702068504 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
