These positions of privilege include (but are not limited to) masculinity, fatherhood, race, and sexuality. Dan Lambert’s fictitious daughter functions largely as a sounding board for how his worldview influences his poems. The sexual overtones included in poems to the daughter, to the daughter’s mother, and to the innumerable beloveds illuminate an undeniable connection between the world’s violence and its deep, primal passions. The speakers in Waterloo Teeth are missing something. All of them are incomplete and driving, often blindly, toward finding a way to finish their selves.
