Psychology Industrial-Organizational Psychology Job Satisfaction Item Response Theory Differential Item Functioning Older Workers This paper examines differential item functioning (DIF) between younger and older workers in the Job Descriptive Index (JDI), a commonly used measure of job satisfaction. Drawing on developmental theories regarding affect and social relationships, I examine whether the JDI items exhibit DIF between older and younger workers. Specifically, items that are affect-laden and items that involve social aspects of relationships were hypothesized to show DIF. Partial support was found for the hypothesis concerning affect-laden items, and support was found for the hypothesis concerning items involving social aspects of relationships. Specific patterns of DIF and implications are discussed. 2014-03-13 English text Bowling Green State University / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=bgsu1386928248 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=bgsu1386928248 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
