Countless small and medium-sized businesses find it challenging to turn into Industry 4.0, due to the amount of initial investment in terms of cost and research effort. Traditionally, in assisting with the various production decision making processes, engineers develop complicated mathematical models and employ advanced programming procedures to thoroughly model and evaluate production line performance and efficiency. In this thesis, research has been conducted on a gate valve manufacturing process to demonstrate the utilization of discrete event simulation modeling and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to analyze system performance. Due to the intelligent objects used in the discrete event simulation model, it allows computer models to simulate elements in the actual production line efficiently and does not require programming knowledge from users. FMEA can also be implemented with a comprehensive knowledge of the studied products and a detailed data collection plan. These two approaches are shown to be more desirable to factory engineers to conduct system analysis in a less time-consuming yet effective way. 2020 English text University of Akron / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=akron160703576237267 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=akron160703576237267 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
