Most of the present related studies are based on giant surfactants with hydrophobic polystyrene (PS) tails and these giant surfactants readily self-assembled into several kinds of ordered structures on nanoscale. By changing the relative volume fractions of different blocks, different self-assembled nanostructures formed. However, the PS tails are flexible and polydisperse in molecular weights, which limit their applications in constructing well-defined nanostructures. And polystyrenes are non-functional polymers, which limits their potential applications as functional materials. In our research, we changed the tails from polystyrenes to polyfluorenes, which is very meaningful. Firstly, polyfluorenes are rigid and monodisperse. Comparing with polystyrenes, their sizes and molecule weights are more controllable for the construction of well-defined nanostructures. Furthermore, polyfluorenes are electroactive, which may induce potential applications as functional materials such as solar cells. The solution self-assembly behaviors of these giant surfactants were thoroughly studied. 2017 English text University of Akron / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=akron1491248947321819 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=akron1491248947321819 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: some rights reserved.
