spelling ndltd-OhioLink-oai-etd.ohiolink.edu-akron14279981912021-08-03T06:29:47Z Ba2+ Induced Self-Assembly of Small Polyoxopalladate Macroanions in Aqueous Solution He, Jiazhi Chemistry Polyoxometallates which have size between 2 to 10 nm behave quite different from simple ions or colloids in solution.1 Several polyoxopalladates’ compounds - [MO8 Pd II 12(SeO3)8]6- – MPdSe with a metal ion - M encapsulated in a cubic shaped cage have been synthesized by Dr. Kortz’s group. Two of them whose center metal ions are zinc and nickel were selected to study their solution behaviors. The solution behaviors of water-soluble cube like polyoxopalladates by titrating small counter-cations were investigated by laser light scattering. The self-assembly behavior of the polyoxopalladates into the “blackberry” supramolecular structures induced by adding barium counter-cations was observed. Moreover, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) experiments were carried out to further prove the hollow spherical, vesicle like, self-assembled structures. Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) experiments were carried out to study the interaction between different counter-cations and polyoxopalladates.
