Past research has shown that sexual victimization has severe detrimental effects on the physical and mental health of victims. Other studies have found that college aged victims are most likely to report any incident to a friends, suggesting that the impact of sexual violence moves beyond the individual victim. The findings of the study support this suggestion. Victims and those aware of a friend's victimization both report higher depressive symptoms.
