An exploration of a student’s preference toward face-to-face communication(FTF) vs. CMC regarding their out-of-class communication (OCC) with an instructor. A survey was created to measure the variables. An analysis was performed using Pearson r Correlation tests between amounts of perceived CMC and student communication satisfaction and teacher immediacy. A correlation matrix was constructed to explore presence regarding OCC. Results indicated that CMC had no impact on student communication satisfaction and higher amounts of FTF communication had a slight positive impact on student’s perceived teacher immediacy. The study provides a groundwork for future research on the impact of CMC in a college context. 2011-05-05 English text University of Akron / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=akron1302217275 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=akron1302217275 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: all rights reserved.
