This multitude of available instructional media confront the teacher with the problem of media selection. Choosing the appropriate available instructional media for the teaching situation is no easy task. This study attempts to (i) identify factors that are disclosed in media selection models and that need to be considered when instructional media are selected for the teaching of Economics and (ii) specify certain instructional media as appropriate for the teaching of Economics. A literature study was undertaken with the purpose of identifying all relevant factors that need to be considered when selecting instructional media for teaching Economics. A questionnaire was developed to test the practical application and use of these factors in the selection of instructional media, as well as to test the practical application for using instructional media to achieve teaching goals in Economics education. This questionnaire was applied to a random sample of fifty (50) active Economics teachers drawn from a population of all Economics teachers employed by the Northern Province Department of Education, Gauteng Department of Education, Mpumalanga Department of Education and North West Department of Education. The research results indicate that the factors identified by means of the literature study are major determinants in selecting the most appropriate instructional media for teaching Economics. Based on research findings it was possible to create a "menu" of instructional media suitable for teaching Economics. A diagrammatic summary of a media-selection model for teaching Economics is provided.Thesis (MEd (Didaktiese Opvoedkunde))--PU vir CHO, 1996Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education2013-09-10T08:18:44Z2013-09-10T08:18:44Z1996Thesishttp://hdl.handle.net/10394/9093other
