In depth, semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine Chief Diversity Officers (CDOs) at PWIs in the northeast region of the U.S. Transcripts were analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) to identify themes. Four major themes emerged: Functions of the Job, Establishment/Oversight of the CDO, Campus Climate Surveys, and Bias Education Response Systems. These findings were considered in light of the Critical Race Theory framework. The framework provided opportunities for examining the lived experiences of the research participants, which allowed for a deeper understanding of their experiences and the critical strategies necessary for advancing and sustaining practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion as a strategic goal for PWIs of higher education in the northeast region of the U.S.http://hdl.handle.net/2047/D20398311
