Motivated by the above problem, we build a testbed of a multi-tier e-commerce site according to the TPC- W specifications in order to investigate the existence of burstiness as well as its performance impacts on multi-tier applications. By using virtualization techniques, we further extend our TPC-W testbed to emulate an enterprise cluster system which consists of a cluster of vir- tual servers at the Front tier.
