This critical introduction takes into consideration the implications of these feminist undertones and examines Beasleys cultural critique of masculinity, violence, and how the two are occasionally interchangeable. Because Beasley uses mythic personae to make these cultural critiques, her poems often work to subvert literary norms and patriarchal narratives. Similar to the way Beasley interrogates masculinity, I use a feminist perspective to interrogate both masculinity as perceived from my own lived experiences as well as my heritage as a Southerner. </p> Richard Lyons Catherine Pierce Robert West MSSTATE 2015-04-27 text application/pdf http://sun.library.msstate.edu/ETD-db/theses/available/etd-04012015-024916/ http://sun.library.msstate.edu/ETD-db/theses/available/etd-04012015-024916/ en restricted I hereby certify that, if appropriate, I have obtained and attached hereto a written permission statement from the owner(s) of each third party copyrighted matter to be included in my thesis, Dissertation, or project report, allowing distribution as specified below.
