Thesis (S.B.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, 2007. Includes bibliographical references (p. 27). Deployable Structures had not been designed for use in the oil field industry, and additionally have not been designed as devices to perform mechanical work. By analyzing deployable structures a detailed understanding of the mechanism kinematics has been developed. Further, we have analyzed new design concepts of deployable structures that include void filling alterations and snap fit strengthening. The actuation and mechanical loading of the structures and the input to output force ratio were investigated. This understanding was applied to several actuation methods. by Logan Munro.
