Summary: | Subjects viewed steadily two luminous dots with various instructions as ta where ta fixate and attend, and what disappearances ta report. An analysis of the results showed that the frequency and duration of disappearances was significantly influenced by fixation, attention, and report. A control indicated that the attention effect was not simply due ta missing unattended events. It was suggested that these uncontrol led factors might have confounded some of the visual disappearance research results and that attention might be the primary determinant of the meaningful perceptual unit effect.
