Running on a cross-slope: a study of the biomechanical adaptations of the lower leg and foot

To the author's knowledge, no studies have included an analysis of foot or ankle kinematics during cross-sloped running, a condition frequently encountered in the runner's training environment. The goal of this thesis was to evaluate the kinematic adaptations induced at the level of the fo...

The goal of this thesis was to evaluate the kinematic adaptations induced at the level of the foot while running on a ten degree cross-slope. A three segment foot model that distinguished the hallux, forefoot and hindfoot was used for this purpose. Ten healthy male experienced runners volunteered to perform level and cross-slope trials, while running barefoot at a moderate speed. The angular excursion of the adjacent foot segments during running was analyzed in all three planes. Statistical analysis were made between the level and cross-sloped condition as well as across limb sides (up-slope and down-slope limb). Results showed that the slope created significant bi-lateral differences in both the hindfoot/tibia and forefoot/hindfoot coupling, most of which occurred in the frontal plane.À l'heure actuelle, aucun article ne décrit une analyse cinématique du comportement du pied et de la cheville lors de la course sur terrain en pente transversale. McGill UniversityDavid J Pearsall (Internal/Supervisor)2010Electronic Thesis or Dissertationapplication/pdfenElectronically-submitted theses. All items in eScholarship@McGill are protected by copyright with all rights reserved unless otherwise indicated.Master of Science (Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education) http://digitool.Library.McGill.CA:80/R/?func=dbin-jump-full&object_id=95169
