| Summary: | In this thesis we study the theory of equations over a free group. We consider basic notions in combinatorial group theory including free groups and free constructions. Using these tools and recent results involving fully residually free groups, we classify solutions to one-variable systems of equations over a free group. We examine some more sophisticated results involving splittings, and obtain a new theorem that describes solutions to two-variable systems of equations over a free group. |
