Description
Summary:Attention was focussed, in 1949, on the Nuclear Shell Model (12) (14) when it succeeded in correlating diversified experimental facts, rather neatly in some cases, and in making definite predictions, many of which were subsequently verified. The scope and importance of the Theory of the Shell Structure have since increased greatly due to the simplicity of its basic assumptions and flexibility for empiricism. These have resulted in increasing areas of success and consequent remoulding of the theory.
