Description
Summary:Radioactive nuclides are identified through the emissions given off in passing from one energy state to another. The type of emission and its energy is characteristic of the nuclide. The unstable nuclide may reach stability in a number of ways. These are dependent on several factors, among them being the excitation energy, nuclear spin, nuclear composition and nuclear shell structure. One of the most common ways for an active nucleus to reach stability is by emission of electromagnetic radiation.
