Description
Summary:Based upon Jungian theory, this study investigated the interaction between personality type (PT; Keirsey-Bates Temperament Sorter) and religious orientation (RO; Age Universal Intrinsic/Extrinsic Scale) as conveyed by the level of religious satisfaction (Spiritual Well Being Scale) and life satisfaction (Satisfaction With Life scale). Self-report surveys from 183 Muslim and Christian university students were analysed using a MANCOVA statistical design. While the predicted interaction was not found, intrinsic RO was found to be associated with higher levels of religious satisfaction than extrinsic RO. Religious satisfaction was found to significantly correlate with life satisfaction. No differences due to religious affiliation were found. A mediating function for religious satisfaction between religious orientation and life satisfaction was suggested. Implications for Jung's theory of the universality of religious experience were discussed.
