The material was obtained from within a few miles of Gimli on Lake Winnipeg, although a few additional pickerel were taken from Lake Winnipegosis for comparison. A brief survey of these two species in Manitoba was made by Dr. A. Bajkov in 1930. His results may be found in a paper entitled "Fishing Industry and Fisheries Investigations in the Prairie Provinces."
