Summary: | In this work we study a quantum mechanical model of magnetoreception in birds based on a pair of electrons undergoing coherent evolution. The magnetoreception arises because there is a different outcome depending on whether the electrons form a singlet or a triplet state, and a magnetic field can influence this configuration. We perform a variety of computational simulations on a simplified model of the above mechanism, with the purpose to study the effect of changing the different variables in which the process depends, ultimately to determine the plausibility of the mechanism. |
