Summary:Dead Man’s Cell Phone by Sarah Ruhl was presented as part of the 2010/ 2011 University of British Columbia theatre season at the Telus Studio Theatre from January 20th to 29th, 2011. The show was directed by Chris McGregor and stage managed by Collette Brown. The design team included Steffi Lai (Costume), Wladimiro Woyno (Lighting), Nathan Shapiro (Sound) and myself (Set/ Projection). This report examines the creative journey of designing the set and projections for Dead Man’s Cell Phone and the technical process that went into realizing the design and staging the production. Emphasis is placed on the use of digital video projection as the primary scenic element and alternative lighting strategy.
