Written language, used in conjunction with visual language, produces meaning that is read through the use of text. The mapping of location and identity provides a polyphonic site and the resulting investigations are assigned textual and visual vocabularies. My lyric essays allow the interweaving of these multiple narratives of the psycho-social aspects of identity to articulate a multi-cultural heritage within a specific location. The visual art works provide for the arrangement of place and identity as compositional components for contemplation of the multiple interpretations of these ideas. This research seeks to map visual and written language through a process that interweaves intuition and intention, reflecting the pluralistic nature of these conceptual underpinnings of place and identity. 2010-01-04T19:46:43Z 2010-01-04T19:46:43Z 2009 2010-01-04T19:46:43Z 2009-11 Electronic Thesis or Dissertation http://hdl.handle.net/2429/17445 eng University of British Columbia
