Summary:The research was performed at sport and health maintenance club ,,Romantic Gym“, obstetric-gynaecological department of public institution Panevezio Hospital and public institution Panevezio Primary Health Care Centre. The research was carried out in 2003 – 2004. 35 women aged 28 ± 4,2 participated in the research. Pregnant women were divided into two groups. Group 1 (n-20) was formed of women who exercised during all period of pregnancy and group 2 (n-15) of women who quit exercising in the first period of pregnancy. Exercises were done 3 – 4 times a week, duration 30 – 40 minutes. The respondents of group 1 according to their physical readiness (appendices 2 and 3) were classified as moderate or strong group of preparedness for pregnancy. They kept the rules of healthy nutrition, took vitamins, minerals and exercised. The respondents of group 2 did not keep the rules of healthy nutrition, take vitamins, minerals and exercise. The weight of newborns and pregnant women was assessed. The results revealed that women who did not exercise put on weight and it increased considerably in II – III periods of pregnancy. The newborns of mothers who kept the rules of healthy nutrition had bigger weight. It was noted that exercising and taking vitamins and minerals do not influence the weight of infants. It is advisable for pregnant women not only exercise, take vitamins and minerals, but to keel habits of healthy and correct diet.
