Procurou-se inicialmente apresentar um sumário dos critérios gerais de estabilidade, para em seguida, baseando-se nestes critérios, introduzir-se uma modificação no processo desenvolvido por Gallagher e outros. Foi elaborado um programa de cálculo automático e aplicado a diversos casos de vigas, pórticos e arcos planos. === Study the elastic stability of structures, using the finite elements method. In the first part it is presented an overall view of the stability criteria, and the essential differences among them. Using the criteria of the stationary value of the potential energy we have modified the method of Gallagher. It was prepared a computer program for the analysis of the stability problems and we present some applications for the case of beams, frames and archs.
