The rationale involved in the creation of the different stimuli conditions is to be found in the theory of D.E. Berlyne who in 1960 developed the concept of collative variable complexity-described as a determing condition of exploratory behavior arousal. Individual differences in visual phoria were controlled among the 103 subjects before the experimental manipulation. Measurements of the horizontal meridonal nasal plane of the monocular visual field were then taken for each of visual stimulus complexity. The experimental design was the 3 x 2 factorial type with repeat measures: 3 levels of stimulus complexity versus right and left visual channel. The results showed significant differences in the magnitude of increase of the horizontal meridonal nasal plane of the monocular visual field as measured in angular unities. These differences were attributed to the different levels of complexity of visual stimuli. If way be thus concluded that the collative variable complexity influence visual perception recognition.
