After in situ hydrogen passivation layers of the DNA bases were prepared in different thicknesses by means of organic molecular beam deposition, all samples were characterized employing valence band and core level photoemission spectroscopy. Additionally the near edge x-ray absorption fine structure of the DNA base layers was investigated.
