Description
Summary:The area discussed in this paper lies in the Merced Hills about 9 miles east of the center of Los Angeles, California. To the east lie the Rio Hondo and the San Gabriel River and east of the valley containing these rivers are the Puente Hills. The western edge of the area mapped merges into the Repetto Hills which extend west nearly to the Los Angeles River. The oil field, from which samples of oil and water were obtained for the radioactive measurements, is located along the south-eastern margin and in eastern portion of the Merced Hills and is called the Montebello Field, after the town of that name about a mile south of the field.
