<p>What will the age of the telephone-computer be like? In this thesis we present an answer to this question. We will base this answer on a conceptual framework being developed by the research group in which this work has been done, namely the Caltech/NCR Project; the work of this Project is embodied in the New World of Computing System. This framework will be stated as a paradigm for human information activities.</p> <p>The main contributions of this thesis are, first, an examination of the implications of this framework for the communication aspects of information processing. The second is the design of the communication aspects of the New World of Computing System, reflecting the results of this examination. The System, in its totality, provides a computer environment for the telephone-computer age.</p>
