Summary: | A series of 1,3-benzothiazole-2-yl-hydrazones were synthesized and evaluated for antibacterial activity against four different bacterial species and antifungal activity against two different fungal species by disk diffusion method displaying different degree of antimicrobial activity. All the synthesized compounds were in good agreement with elemental and spectral data (FT-IR, 1H NMR and mass spectroscopy). In vitro antimicrobial activity was evaluated against the four pathogenic bacterial strains, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas alkaligenes and three fungal strains Aspergillus niger, Rhizopus oryzae and Candida albicans. The compounds have shown moderate activity. Compounds 3a and 3b were found to be most active.
