Description
Summary:The article is devoted to the representation of a unique event in the history of the Ancient Rus – direct contact of the Galicia–Volhynia Prince Daniel with the Knights Templar. The author analyses the “reading” of the heritage schemes of this conflict in pre-war period and the modelling of their political and ideological background during the Stalinist period. The image of the state control over culture in the development of Soviet historical memory played an important role. In this article, we will try to understand the Soviet historical vision of the Ukrainian history (for example, on the Drohiczyn battle). We will try to explain how, but more importantly, why this event evolved from a simple conflict in the Medieval period into the heroic victory of Daniel of Galicia.
