Summary:The purpose of the article is to reconstruct the biography of Kostiantyn Symeonov; to analyze the spiritual and professional roots of his work; to systematize the facts of his life and creative path, as well as the methods of artistic confrontation with the negative phenomena of social life. The research methodology consistedinthe historical-biographical method, which allowed for reconstructing the integral biography of the conductor and highlighting its main stages; the method of analysis of the musical-historical process, which was essential for understanding KostiantynSymeonov’s contribution to the musical culture of Ukraine; the method of studying conducting art as a form of musical performance. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the first attempt to reconstruct the biography of Kostiantyn Symeonov in its integrity, introduce into scientific use newly found facts which have not been systematized before, and propose a periodization of his creative path, where an important role is given to his creative accomplishments in Ukraine. Conclusions. The theoretical generalization and a new solution to the scientific problem are given – to determine the function of the conductor and reveal the specificity of the phenomenon of opera and symphonic conducting by analyzing the biography and the creative method of Kostiantyn Symeonov in the Ukrainian period of his activity.
